Speaker : Kristy Ellmer
It is the human nature that people feel uncomfortable wtih change. When people confront change their brain releases stress hormones. For example, when people meet a bear in the woods their brain tells them to run which is not a good solution. People have to realize staying still is a better option. However, most people will follow the first option because it's human nature. This is the same to changes. People have to overcome their fear.
In this TED speech, Kristy Ellmer speaks about ways to navigate change with confidence. She says there are five primary motivators to why people are motivated to change.
- Personal achievement
- Customers
- Teams
- Community
- Financial Outcomes
She also found almost the same percentage of each element were the same, so about 20% each. If a CEO of a company annouces there will be a big change and if we overcome this change the company will grow. People will get promoted and the stock price will rise. In this case the CEO is only motivating people with two primary motivators group, personal achievement(being promoted) and financial outcomes(stock price rising). If there were 100 people listening to the speech, the CEO is only motivating 40 people.
Opinion
